What does a chrome finish look like in person?

Chrome is a plated mirror finish. Traditional chrome is electroplated over the aluminum in layers. PVD chrome is a vapor deposited coating that looks nearly the same and weighs less.

How do I clean chrome wheels?

Plated chrome wants a gentle cleaner and a dry towel, and it hates road salt, which pits the plating over a winter. PVD chrome takes ordinary wheel soap and shrugs salt off better.

Chrome or PVD chrome?

PVD is the lighter, tougher one and it costs about the same. Traditional plating goes deeper into the mirror look and adds a few pounds a wheel. In a salt state PVD is the one that still looks new after a few winters.

Does chrome pit?

Plated chrome pits where salt or brake dust sits on it for weeks. Rinse it after a salty drive, dry it, and keep acid cleaners off it. PVD doesn't pit the same way, because there's no plating layer to lift.
