About Suspension Parts

These are the parts that finish the job. Top mounts, because the rubber one on an old strut is the noise you'll hear a week after the coilovers go in. Adjustable end links, because a lowered car preloads the factory ones. Bump stops and boots, because the originals were cut for a taller car. Then spring pads, helper springs, thrust bearings and the odd bushing. None of it's exciting, and all of it is the difference between a quiet install and a rattle.

We carry the service pieces for the kits we sell. KW lists its own mounts and rebuild parts, Tein and Ohlins do the same, and a mount from one of them rarely fits another. Check the listing against your kit rather than just your car. Rebuild intervals live on the product page and they come from the maker, since a car that sees track days uses a damper up faster than one that doesn't.

Bushings are the quiet upgrade nobody talks about. Urethane arm and subframe bushings take the mush out of a steering input for less than a set of springs. They'll add a little vibration, and a squeak if you skip the grease. Solid subframe collars go further and belong on a track car. If you're already pulling an arm, look at the control arms page instead.

Common questions

Do coilovers come with top mounts
Most kits include them, and a kit that doesn't is cheaper for a reason. If yours reuses the factory mount, replace it anyway when the car has real miles on it, because a worn rubber bearing clunks and can bind the steering. Some kits use a pillow ball mount instead, which is quieter at the wheel and louder in the cabin, so you're trading one noise for another.
What do adjustable end links do
They join the sway bar to the strut or arm at a length you choose, so the bar sits neutral once the car is lower. Factory links are fixed for factory height, so they don't know you've lowered anything. Drop the car and they pull the bar into a twist at rest, which stiffens one side, adds noise and can crack a link. Setting them takes a tape measure and ten minutes a side.
Should I change bump stops when I lower
Yes, or trim what you've got. The factory stop was sized for the factory height and a lowered car sits closer to it, sometimes right on it. A shorter stop hands travel back. Some spring makers include trimmed stops and others expect you to cut the originals.
When do coilovers need a rebuild
When the damping fades or a seal starts weeping, and on schedule if the maker publishes one. Track miles use a damper faster than street miles do. A rebuild means fresh seals and oil, and a revalve if you ask for one. KW publishes an interval and a rebuild kit, Tein and Ohlins do the same, and we've got the service parts for all three.
