About Lift Kits

Looking to go up instead of down? Most of this site drops cars, and this page is the exception, for the crossovers and pickups that share the catalog with them. A lift buys you tire clearance first and ground clearance second. If you're in a Civic or a Supra, the lowering springs and coilovers pages are the ones you want. Save the height and the wheel listings open up.

There's two families of kit. A spacer lift adds a block above the strut and under the rear spring. It keeps your factory springs and shocks, and it's the cheap route to a taller tire. A full lift replaces springs and shocks, often the arms too, and it keeps the travel a spacer takes away. On a crossover, which is what most people here are lifting, it's the spacer, because there isn't an aftermarket coil for most of them.

One warning before you spend anything. A lift moves everything your alignment shop cares about, so book the alignment along with it. The ball joints up front end up at a steeper angle, and that's why a taller kit brings upper arms along. Headlights aim high afterward, and a taller tire slows the speedometer the way it would on any car here. Each listing says what's in the box and what it's expecting you to add.

Common questions

Do I need an alignment after a lift
Yes, spacer kits included. Front geometry moves with height, and caster in particular decides whether the steering comes back to center on its own. Give the parts a few days to settle first, then align it and keep the printout in the glovebox. Wandering on the highway after a lift usually traces back to an alignment that didn't happen.
Can I lift a crossover
A little, with a spacer kit. Crossovers run struts at every corner and there's no aftermarket coil for most of them, so the lift is a spacer above the strut and it's modest by design. You get a slightly taller tire and the factory look intact. Past that the CV joints and the strut travel say no, and the kit makers stop there.
Does a lift void the warranty
Not the whole warranty. Under Magnuson Moss the dealer has to tie the failure to the lift before denying a claim on that part. A joint claim on a lifted truck is a conversation. An engine claim isn't. Keep the height sensible, fit whatever arms the kit calls for, and hang on to the alignment receipt.
Will bigger tires affect my speedometer
Yes, and it's worth sorting before a speed camera does it for you. A taller tire covers more ground per turn, so the speedometer reads slow and the odometer counts short. A handheld tuner or a trip to the dealer recalibrates most of them, and a few have a tire size setting buried in the dash. We show the diameter change against factory on the wheel and tire listings, so you'll know how far off you'd be.
