Running a class that says the tire has to be street legal? That's why the Proxes R888R exists, and it's what a lot of time attack cars run. It's an R compound. It isn't a rain tire and it isn't a daily tire. If your car never sees a public road, the Proxes RR sits above it.

About Toyo tires

For the street, the Proxes Sport 2 is the max performance summer tire, and it's the Toyo for a Supra that wants grip without track wear. Want one set all year? The Sport A/S does the same job with a compound that works in the cold. Lowering something big? That's what the Proxes ST III is for.

Toyo builds the R888R in the widths a square track setup wants. Set your car and you'll see what your wheel width carries at a diameter near the factory one. That's what keeps your speedometer honest, and it's the part people skip right before they complain about it.

Common questions

Is the Toyo Proxes R888R street legal
Yes, it carries a DOT stamp. It's still an R compound track tire with almost no tread, so it hydroplanes in standing water, wears fast on pavement and does nothing at all in the cold. Drive it to the track and back if you have to. Don't daily it, and don't get caught out in the rain on it.
Toyo Proxes Sport 2 or Michelin Pilot Sport 4S
The Michelin is better in the wet and it lasts longer. The Toyo costs less and gives up a little in both. If your car gets driven in the rain, the 4S is worth the difference. If it's a summer car that mostly sees dry roads, the Sport 2 is a fair trade and you'll spend the savings on something else.
